Need help with Math?
The College Math Center is an important resource for students in math and other related curriculum. Math Instructional Assistants offer individual math help to all Thomas Nelson students. We also provide materials to help students review and improve mathematical skills.
A math consultant is available at the Hampton campus and at the Historic Triangle campus during the listed hours and can be contacted in person, by phone, or via email during these hours.
The College Math Center operates on a walk-in basis. No appointment is required.
The Math Center will re-open for the fall semester on August 19.
Do I need an appointment?
No appointment required! The college math center operates on a walk-in basis.
Can I get help with something that is not a Thomas Nelson class? (i.e. placement test, standardized test, class at another college)
No, the math center only provides assistance with classes that are being taken at Thomas Nelson.
Do you have any information on the Virginia Placement Test for math?
Yes, here is a list of resources for the placement test.
Will I have to wait to get help?
Often a math instructional assistant is available right away, but at busy times you may have to wait to be seen. This is typically no longer than 15 minutes.
How much help can I get?
We can answer specific questions and help if you're stuck on a homework problem. The college math center is not a substitute for attending your lectures. When we are busy, students must take turns asking questions and getting assistance.
If you would like to make an appointment with a tutor who can spend an hour working individually with you, we recommend that you try the Peer Tutoring Center.
Can you help me with my calculator?
Yes! We are very knowledgeable about the TI-83 and TI-84, and we can help with basic scientific calculators too. We'll do our best to help with whatever kind of calculator you have.
What classes can I get help for?
We can help with any math classes offered at Thomas Nelson (MTT, MTE, or MTH).
We may be able to help with the math that you encounter in other classes (such as science, engineering, or nursing classes) but we do not have any specific knowledge on these subjects. We do not help with accounting.
Can I get help with a project, quiz, or take-home test?
No, we do not provide assistance with graded assignments.
Is there space for me to work on my homework in the math center?
Yes, we have tables and computers. You can study or work on your homework here and ask for help as you need it.
Can I take tests in the math center?
No, we cannot proctor any tests or exams at the math center.
What are the hours/location of the Math Emporium?
