    Other General Guidelines

    • Your reference list (same as a bibliography or works cited page) will be a separate page at the end of your paper.
    • Title it References and center it at the top of your page.
    • Capitalize only the first word in the title and subtitle. Capitalize any proper nouns (e.g. United States, Thomas Jefferson, Supreme Court, American) (Exception for The, A?)
    • Alphabetize entries by authors’ names. If an entry has no author’s name, alphabetize by the first significant word in the title. If you have more than one work by the same author, order by year of publication, with the earliest first.
    • If the author’s name is unavailable, use the first few words of the title of the source, including the appropriate capitalization and italics formatting
    • If the References list includes 2 or more entries by the same author(s), list them in chronological order with the earliest first (p. 182).
    • Italicize book titles, journal titles, and volume numbers. Do not italicize issue numbers.
